Environmental Studies Program

Program Requirements

All ENVR majors complete the following program requirements, regardless of undergraduate college:
  • A set of core courses, which provide a breadth in knowledge of environmental science, issues, and policies. This includes a three-credit hour capstone independent thesis, ENVR 499A & B, under the guidance of a faculty adviser and a selected reader, a one-credit hour sophomore seminar, ENVR 289 and a one-credit hour senior seminar, ENVR 489.
  • A set of collateral course requirements devised to provide useful analytical tools. The collateral courses will vary depending on which degree is pursued, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or the Bachelor of Science (BS) and the college in which it is pursued, CASNR or ASC.
  • An emphasis to develop depth of knowledge in a specific area or field.
  • An optional internship program, ENVR 497, and independent study program, ENVR 498, which offer the opportunity to gain up to four credit hours for work experience related to the student's academic and career objectives.

In addition to the core courses, students select an academic emphasis.
