Madeline Howell is an Environmental Studies graduate who is working as an Environmental Scientist at an engineering firm called AECOM in Omaha, Nebraska.

When asked what she enjoyed about the UNL Environmental Studies program she said, “I liked how the Environmental Studies program provided various opportunities to become more involved on campus.  For instance, I became a member of a student-based organization that back then was called the Environmental Resource Center (ERC).  The ERC allowed me to meet with other students with similar interests regarding environmental stewardship.  We hosted recycling events during football season, planned a week-long Earth Day celebration, and provided cleanup services for parks.  It was a fun and engaging experience that I was proud to be a part of.”

She has accomplished a lot since graduating sharing, “Since graduating, I received my Masters degree in Public Health with an Environmental Health concentration at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). As part of my thesis, I served as coauthor for an Environmental Health publication that looked at spatial distribution of birth defects and pediatric cancer among Nebraska's watersheds.  Later on, I was offered a job at AECOM to serve as an Environmental Scientist where I manage chemistry analytical data.”
