Why did you choose Environmental and Sustainability Studies?
- My lifelong love for nature, combined with a family that values travel, has shaped my passion for studying the environment and climate change. Experiencing diverse landscapes and cultures from a young age deepened my appreciation for the environment and heightened my awareness of its vulnerability. UNL's ESS program offers an amazing interdisciplinary opportunity to study the environment and sustainability.
How has the program helped you build your career?
- I have gained all of my professional experiences through the ESS program. It started off in ENVR 319, where I was a student consultant for Lincoln. My team and I developed a comprehensive electric vehicle readiness plan to support Initiative #29 of Lincoln’s Climate Action Plan. From there, I started an internship under our Program Director, David Gosselin, with Project Energy Nebraska (PEN). We created an Integrated Waste-to-Energy Framework for Norfolk, NE. From that experience, I was asked to take that project to Conservation Nebraska and served as a Conservation Director. I am also a Learning Assistant for 3 classes in the ESS program. As one can see, ESS has opened many doors for me!!
What extracurricular activities have you been involved in?
- I love to read, lift, spend time outdoors, and travel in my free time.
What are your post-graduate plans?
- I will continue working in the environmental and sustainability industry. I also hope to continue traveling!
What is your favorite book?
- I am very much a book nerd and could not possibly choose a favorite book. I enjoy reading fantasy/adventure books.
Where is your dream vacation spot and why?
- My dream vacation spot is Italy! I would love to experience the culture, food, and wine.
